What is a Nude?

From Flesh to Poetry:

“The nude is not the subject of subject of art, but a form of art.” So wrote Kenneth Clark, who distinguished in his great 1956 book “The Nude” between a naked body — that is, one merely caught without clothes on — and a nude, “the most complete example of the transmutation of matter into form.”

I just love this quote. It’s a beautiful definition of the nude art form. Nudes are currently quite fashionable and are gaining momentum in the art world and with collectors. The news is riddled with debates on this nude being too much and that nude being too little.. It’s all a bit crazy. I tend to wonder how it bodes for someone like me.. is there a bubble? will it burst? how will that affect me?
