thankyou
It’s thanksgiving in the US and, as an American, I still celebrate it with some friends and food. it’s a good time to think back, just before the madcap holidays begin and appreciate all that we have that we are thankful for. Recently, I’ve been struggling more and more with depression. it’s a problem that many chronic pain sufferers face and most of the time I beat it and stay focussed on my dream but sometimes it gets the better of me. the simple act of gratitude has really helped with this lately and now that we are on the verge of thanksgiving I want to take a moment to share all the things I am thankful for.
I’m thankful for my wonderful supportive husband who understands me and my moods, from artistic temperament to the chronic pain dumps, and loves me anyway. I couldn’t ask for a better partner to go through life laughing, singing and crying with.
I have two of the best cats ever. period. I’m so thankful for the laughs and love they give me every day.
I’m thankful that I have passion and talent and drive. I know what I want in my life and I’m working towards getting it.
I’m thankful for my brilliant friends and family, both close and distant, who are always there for gossip, laughs, advice and hugs.
I’m thankful for hugs! hugs are a wonderful thing. The world needs more hugs.
I’m grateful for my iMac. seriously this is a sexy sexy machine.
I’m grateful for the interwebs without which I would never have met so many of you wonderful people, nor would I have progressed my career to the point it’s at or have had so many delightful, daily distractions.
and I’m thankful for all of you, for reading this blog, buying my artwork, sending in your comments and coming to my shows. thankyou all!
you have your free nude models… now what?
All those zip files that you downloaded in previous weeks are probably languishing away. expand them to your content folder in the main Daz|Studio application folder. you want the runtime folders to merge into your main runtime category so to do everything automatically it’s easiest if you set your expanding program to merge the contents and preserve the folder structure.
It’s time to open up Daz|Studio and take a look around. personally when I get a new piece of software I like to play with it and learn by doing. It’s going to ask you a number of questions about how you want the program to look and what features you want activated. this is all your own choice and it’s very easy to change in the view menu. I use an advanced split screen setting but for now you may want to use one of the basic layouts until you get the hang of things.
When Daz asks if you want it to scan your database say yes. it’s going to take a look and find all of those new files you just added and will add them to the uncategorized section. the darker color and ! means that this is new content that you haven’t used yet. you can drag your new items around and categorize them so that you can find them later. this is all totally up to you, you can categorize by dragging and dropping or by right clicking and selecting categorize… it helps to take the time to do this on a regular basis. I have so much content it takes forever to find them if I don’t stick to my system!
Poll: which do you prefer?
I’ve wondered about this for a really long time.. it probably wont affect how I paint because I paint how I feel at the time, but I’m curious to know the results! which of my painting styles do you like best? for those who don’t know, my “ochre” works are the earthy pieces, my impasto works are the white ones and my watercolors are the new…watercolor pieces..
if you are reading this in RSS you may need to visit the page to vote in the poll. thanks!

Children in Art Protocols
BeatriceThe document focuses on four central areas: making sure children are protected from when the artwork is created until when it is shown; how to relate the nature and content of the material to viewers; protecting children from being exploited; and creating guidelines while maintaining the council’s support of artists and artistic freedom.
Respondents included academics, community and government bodies, and children’s right activists. According to the document, many people expressed genuine concern for the rights of the artists: “Upholding the freedom of practice and expression in the arts was a key consideration raised by many stakeholders,” it says.
The respondents were generally divided between those in favor of the protocols and those who fear that their creation will lead to the censorship of artists.

I am uncertain on how I feel about this. I don’t object to there being regulations to protect children, definitely not on a general scale. I do however object to there being regulations surrounding art. art is about breaking boundaries and rules, to broadening people’s minds and to extending their worlds. art should be challenging and at times uncomfortable. it should be without rules by it’s very nature.
I also believe that parents should be responsible for their children, that it is up to them to ensure they are not exploited or mistreated. and yes, I know sometimes it can happen regardless, but I resent the government saying that parents have no rights over their children – what? and no, hovering anxiously over children isn’t the answer either. I’m sure there must be a happy medium in which children grow up at the proper time, dress their age and avoid miscreants and ne’er-do-wells. (and I realize that I have no say as someone who is not yet a parent, but as I intend to be one day and am an insane planner you better believe I have given these areas much thought.)
again I ask what is being done about the children who are really in need? Obviously not enough, and yet more time and effort is being funneled into these less important issues. yes children need protecting, but not necessarily from artists.
