30 is a landmark birthday so I’ve decided to celebrate with a one day sale of all my works – 30% off. Putting artwork on sale is tricky because there is always a concern about devaluing the works. They should be done rarely, and carefully. I, however, also enjoy such luxuries as eating and sleeping indoors. I also like having wall space for new works!
So! if there are any pieces you have had your eye on, 30% off One Day Only – 8th of February. enter code JR30 at Boundlessgallery.com

Makehuman
I am so excited, the new release of Makehuman is out. it’s still in Alpha pretty much but this program promises big things.
Dedalo-3d.com:
MakeHuman © is completely free, innovative and professional software for the modelling of 3-Dimensional characters. The features that make this software unique are the new Tetra-parametric GUI © components and the Natural Pose System ©, for advanced muscular simulation.
Using MakeHuman a photorealistic character can be modeled in less than 2 minutes; MakeHuman is released under an Open Source Licence, and is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
I use human modelling engines when I really want to play with a pose or lighting. Usually I use Poser because it’s the standard, but it runs like a dog and I find that it’s gravity is off. it seems to ascribe more to comic book and computer game females rather than real ones and the anatomy is quite different. well, it’s really non existent – it’s surface driven rather than anatomically driven – which means that all the changes occur on the basic skin level (including some massive splintering of the textures if you try a flexible range of motion). there are some very nice light filters and so on but I don’t think it justifies the cost, or the enormous time cost in running it.
Already with Makehuman there are notable changes- when you alter one body part everything else moves as well. so if an arm is lifted the breast changes shape. if a form is twisted the muscles underneath correspond. it’s really outstanding to see. the smart controls for age, sex and weight are also brilliant as the figure and fat/muscle placement changes depending on gender or age. it’s also faster by a long shot. and free. and mac compatible. it’s still being tested and there are some bobbles but it’s already impressed the socks off me.

Hey – I’ve been blogging for 3 years now! and I now have exactly the same number of comments as posts. well, it’s tipped now with this post but still! I’ve used several blogging platforms but WordPress.com is by far the simplest and best. I also think Akismet should be registered as an official saint.

Storm – 12 x 12 Oils on Canvas by Jennie
Apparently what one should do when detoxing is to get stuck into web stuff. I decided to change hosts this year. my last one was ok, but I wanted a host that had more room/features and with a functioning help desk. I don’t need help a lot of the time. in fact, I rarely need it, but it’s nice to know it’s there, and that the support staff will actually get back to you.
I ended up going with 1&1. they have provided me with a plan that actually costs less, will host all my urls (at the cheapest registration prices I’ve ever seen) and will still allow me to do everything I want. I have more space, more mailboxes, more features and piece of mind. as soon as I realized that I could install phplist manually that was it. with my contract coming up at 123, I decided to take the plunge.
yeah.. great idea, except that phplist is a bitch to install. I’ve been working on it for days, with a brain that isn’t working quite right. it’s finally up and running again. I am going to be drafting a newsletter next week and testing the messaging before I send out my new newsletter format to everyone. if you want to give me a hand with testing please let me know – I need to send out formatted emails to different operating systems and mail programs.

Grace – 48 x 36 acrylic and gesso on canvas by Jennie

Barebrush.com has a new Lightbox feature, making it much easier to view all the works from an artist. every detailed view counts to place my work higher on the curators lightbox. view my works here and vote for My Favorite Nude for November here
Boundless Gallery is hosting a competition to see who the featured artist will be for December. your every vote counts! plus you can see my works for sale or commission a piece personally. there are other artists too of course but naturally you aren’t interested in them
just enter your email and Robert’s your uncle! it all starts here
thankyou all for your support!

I’ve updated my website with all the latest news. The new iWeb has changed the gallery format but I think I like it. I miss lightbox and my htaccess mods but this is very effective. I’d like to hear what you think.
I have some shows coming up over the christmas period so stay tuned!

I have the pleasure of administrating and moderating Redbubble’s first and only (at this stage) nude art group. Groups are a new feature to Redbubble but they have fast become a favorite place to showcase the best artwork across the board. The Artistic Nude is open to all media and already has some astounding artworks on it- it’s a pleasure to see all the new works that get added.
I find myself in a unusual position as someone who now has to decide if a work needs to be censored. I clarified the guidelines and made sure I knew exactly what was permissible and what wasn’t but I find that most people already adhere to a personal set of limitations and don’t feel a need to add extra flesh gratuitously (except for one- but I’m keeping an eye on him!). I am sure, at some point, I will paint some nudes with labia and vulva showing but I don’t feel it is necessary just because I can- it needs to have a point, a reason, like everything in art, gratuity for gratuity’s sake seems meaningless to me.

Running – 24×24 Acrylic and Gesso on Canvas by Jennie
Boundless Gallery, my main online gallery, has been undergoing changes. From opening up new ways to search for art to adding social media aspects, it’s really pushing ahead in the world of online galleries. One of the biggest of changes is the introduction to plans. now, I hate putting down money up-front for anything. I will debate every expenditure, especially when it comes to my career- I worry about everything, terrified I won’t make it back. but I have sold most of my international works through Boundless and am rated as a “best seller” so it was suggested by Luke at Boundless I join under the DaVinci plan which is a larger upfront fee but involves no commission at all. I have to admit I hadn’t even thought about it until his email, I immediately discounted it as an ‘upfront cost’ and ran away screaming and never did the math (because, like fees, I will run away from math as well)- but the numbers added up and I deliberated before buying my plan at the last possible minute of the launch sales (never one to do anything until I absolutely have to). it’s scary but it may give me the push I’ve been after to get some of my new thoughts down on canvas.
I do recommend Boundless Gallery to artists looking to sell their work, it’s really helped me keep my career turn a profit and collect collectable collectors.

I am musing over my website. the latest version of iWeb has improved some of the key issues but has changed the gallery setup quite drastically so I find myself in a difficult place. I can continue with my original gallery setup with the .htaccess lightbox mod and switch to self managing my gallery again (rather than the very simple integration with iPhoto – yes I am lazy) or I can change to the new format which is more of an ajax type with a dynamic load and a slideshow format. this seems like a very small thing to consider, and normally it wouldn’t give me a moment’s doubt, but I am unable to integrate sales information links into the new gallery type. what I have been considering for the past few weeks is adding sales options below the images that have either originals or prints available. I have received a lot of requests for sales information integrated with my pages and am still torn on whether this is the direction I wish to travel in. on one hand it offers another potential income stream and different traffic options – on the other, it could piss off commercial galleries by looking too self managed.
So I put my questions to you dear readers – would you prefer to see sales options on my website gallery pages? or, do you think it is best to leave the sales info to my blog or to separate pages on my website?

another in a long line of social arts marketing webpages, redbubble is based here in Australia with a simple design ethic and a great community feel. the site has options for different types of prints, cards and t-shirts – and while I may not turn my hand to designing t-shirts I will definitely buy some! the artwork is young, edgy and all of the artists seem to be very approachable and fun. this site has fantastic design and is a lot of fun to play with – I’ve wasted many hours on it already and already received some great feedback. oh, and today, for the first time my work is featured on the home page!

I just noticed that the last post made 500 posts on my blog! This is 501 which strikes me as oddly appropriate given the new directions I am moving in. I am also at 495 comments – so close! so I invite everyone to drop me some comment love to make it 501 comments for 501 posts!
thanks everyone for making this blog such a success

Well, modifications are almost complete on my new Blog format. I think it is looking pretty good so far. the top right will have a featured artwork- I’m currently working out how it will work and look and how often it will be updated. let em know if you are experiencing any problems with the interface. I can’t change the source code but I can modify the CSS.

I have been very slack with my blog. it’s funny – it was doing so well last year that I panicked and stopped working on it. I have a fear of letting people down – so I stop and let them down.. wait.
Every day I write a blog post in my head. but for some reason it’s been hard to get things out on my keyboard. it’s been a tough winter but a lot has been happening, but rather clue you in on it and manage to wake up tomorrow and find it was all a dream, I say nothing at all. sometimes I’m afraid I don’t have anything important to say, a new work, a hard hitting article, nothing. but the fact is I do usually have a voice and I am choosing to shutup. I am no longer using my blog as a visual diary or as a journal of my emerging success as an artist and I need to do something about this.
well that ends today. I am going to make a concerted effort to pick up my blogging starting with a blog makeover. no more blog apathy for me!

This week has been the tech week from hell. my Keyboard died (it’s back up now though obviously), consolidating our iTunes libraries on our new HDD took considerably longer than it should have, I have lost some music, and the Internode Price hikes came through.
I signed up with internode scant hours before they announced the changes. I then tried submitting a cancellation twice when I found out the costs. the status check page said my installation was still in progress so I foolishly believed that meant I could halt the process and cancel. stupid really.
now I am up for the connection fee and the first month. they were adamant that the provisioning had gone through and that I was liable. I tried everything. I spoke to everyone. I tried being reasonable, being angry, being depressed, legalese, I even played the disabled card, and for nothing!
Now it appears my phone is broken. this gets better and better.

It has become blatantly clear to me that I spend most of my time working online and not nearly enough time painting. It’s all very well to work on promotions and building my online presence and it is paying off, but I need to focus on making my art as well. there is no point in promoting if I don’t have anything to promote! plus I am going crazy with all these ideas in my head- I need to get them out.
my apologies in advance if I don’t post as often or am slow in answering emails, it isn’t because I don’t love you all! I think it will be good to focus on my painting right now, I’m looking forward to being in seclusion.
my internet being shaped yet again has nothing to do with this. stupid telstra.

Vaulted – Oils on Canvas by Jennie
I have been working on CSS for this blog. I’ve been worried about the way images have been displaying especially. I don’t know about the rest of you but I’ve been seeing images randomly squishing, a reload fixes it but I worry about what sort of image it presents. the title and artist info has been not uniform and blended too well with the general text. the spacing was also often a problem and the sizing. it’s been bugging me for a while, so today I purchased the custom CSS option from WordPress and have started customizing my look and feel.
Not too much will change, I actually really like this layout and basic design but I will be making it fit my visual identity better. already the images are looking nicer with nice captions and uniform blocks. so far I haven’t noticed any loading problems and the dreaded squishing doesn’t seem to be rearing it’s ugly head. if you notice anything weird, let me know. I am still working on the rest, it will be a slow process but the little tweaks do make a difference.

You may have noticed some new items on the side bar for buying art on ebay. I will gain some small revenue from each sale made after clicking on one of those links (even if it isn’t art related). I am limited on monetization options, because I don’t want to present something inappropriate to my subject matter and I don’t want visitors to be assaulted by ads. these are small, tasteful and appropriate and hopefully I will be able to make a small amount to help with my site running costs. I hope you will consider taking a look and maybe buying something from ebay after clicking one of my links.
Of course you are always welcome to buy my art online at boundless and sculptr or prints at imagekind

I’ve been working on social networking, myspace, flickr, mybloglog, it can get pretty crazy but it is worth it – it’s all about presence and marketing. sometimes it’s hard to keep them all straight but they are slowly developing. I am also looking into the print market and monetizing this blog. It looks as though I will need to save up some moneys for some exciting new developments overseas (but I don’t want to jinx anything so that is all you are going to hear for now
).
Feel free to look me up, add me to your friends list or put in a comment, I love hearing from you all.

I’m testing a new way to use my flickr images in my posts. – damn, didn’t work. never mind back to the drawing board.
a quick warning, my site is down (again
) hopefully it will be back up again soon. my email is down as well so I will be taking longer than usual to respond to emails, sorry about that.
meanwhile, I now have a contact form thanks to the lovely people at wordpress.

WordPress have fixed the issue, they really are fantastic. Don’t forget to check out April’s Nudes of the Month – my piece Repose is in it. Thanks again, you all helped me get in this exhibition and I appreciate it. Voting will start soon for my favorite nude, I’ll let you know when voting opens.
I am going away over easter, camping again. I think it will be good to get away, have a rest and recoup from everything. I’ll come back full of new fresh ideas and posts and ready to take my art career in my teeth and shake it all about.. or something..

my blog is currently experiencing technical issues. I haven’t changed anything so I assume it is a wordpress issue. in particular, images that are hosted by wordpress are broken. I am looking into the matter and I am sure it will be fixed shortly. my apologies for the current state.
