New Poll

:?: As you know, for the last show I didn’t post my images and my thoughts on them, hoping to create an air of mystery or something.. It was tough but I did it. anyway, what did you think. did you miss my usual rants and musings about pieces that will be in the show? did it make you feel like you wanted to see it more? or less or no difference?

anyway, I’ve created a poll on my Boundless website you can visit here. everything is confidential. or you can comment here.

Children exposed to nudes.

100_2426 Even though parents have to approve out-of-school trips for their children, at least one apparently didn’t realize what an art museum might have on display. The parent was highly offended that his or her child saw a naked statue at the museum. The poor child – who no doubt has seen Brittney, Jessica and many other “stars” cavorting in next to nothing on TV – was badly traumatized by the experience and the parent complained.

Editorial: A lesson in the art of pleasing parents | The Bryan-College Station Eagle:

This sort of thing drives me crazy. I don’t understand how we can live in a society that is both prudish and exhibitionist – two ends of the spectrum. I suspect it has to do with the fact that both are whiplashing from the other. but I digress.

This reminds me of that Simpsons episode with the David. I think it is so sad that prudishness has reached a point where a classic art form is ‘traumatic/’ Now, there is a lot of difference between nudes ad being nekkid, and there is a huge difference between an artistic nude and pornography. but these knee-jerk reactions sicken me. Kids are exposed to a lot more sexual innuendo and nudity in daily life but a museum visit where they happen to see a nude is traumatic? give me a break. first, parents should realize that galleries and museums frequently have nude paintings and sculptures on display, and second, get over it! or do kids bathe fully clothed now?

There is a lot of controversy surrounding this issue and whether the school fired the teacher involved for this specific complaint or for ‘performance issues’ in the past. All I know is this is a big fuss over nothing. if the parent didn’t want their child exposed to such things then they should have thought about it and not signed the form. seeing as they gave permission they are just being complete whiners. get over it and get a clue.

On The Edge

100_3209 Do you ever feel like you are on the edge of something important? like something is going to happen, something big? I feel like that at the moment. The problem is – I don’t know what! is it an evolution of my art? is it the next stage in my career? The problem is that I am excited but worried – what if I don’t or can’t do whatever it is I obviously need to do? what if this thing that is going to happen doesn’t because I am afraid, or too sore or something?

I feel like waiting is almost filled. It is an exciting and scary prospect. I hope I am ready for whatever it is!
