I’m a complete exhibitionist!

Slump - 12 x 12 Oils on Canvas

Slump - 12 x 12 Oils on Canvas by Jennie

while not the most successful opening I’ve had, this certainly was one of the most fun! we sat around and caroled, ate junk food and commiserated about the rain keeping the patrons at bay. This was all followed up by dinner with my best collectors eating hearty and warming food. all in all, good company and good fun!

I’m re-thinking the whole openings on a weeknight deal. it’s common here to have openings on Wednesdays or Fridays. On paper a wednesday opening makes sense - it’s payday, most galleries are close to the CBD and it’s a nice midweek break. the reality seems to be that it is mid week and everyone is too tired.. except for the artists of course who are excited by the prospect of seeing people, taking about art, being charmingly bohemian and of course getting free food and drink. I worry that the wednesday openings just don’t seem to be as popular. I think it is something to consider in the future.

the show is on from now until christmas - I hope you go see it - it’s a wonderful collection of different types works by different artists at a lovely and relaxed gallery.

Grace - 48 x 36 acrylic and gesso on canvas by Jennie

It’s popularity contest time once more, so I must crave your pardon while I grovel for pageviews and votes yet again.

Barebrush.com has a new Lightbox feature, making it much easier to view all the works from an artist. every detailed view counts to place my work higher on the curators lightbox. view my works here and vote for My Favorite Nude for November here

Boundless Gallery is hosting a competition to see who the featured artist will be for December. your every vote counts! plus you can see my works for sale or commission a piece personally. there are other artists too of course but naturally you aren’t interested in them ;) just enter your email and Robert’s your uncle! it all starts here

thankyou all for your support!

Masquerade

Masquerade - 10 x 12 Oils on Canvas

Masquerade - 10 x 12 Oils on Canvas by Jennie

this was an organic piece, one that sort of grew on a bored afternoon. sometimes it’s fun to just relax and see what comes of it. the mask was Liam’s idea and it just grew in the piece with some very bizarre colors at first - I was just playing with colors and they resolved into this. this one is off to Miami art basel with the other small 10×12″ piece. all in all I am happy with it, it’s nice to just let go and experiment.

A new, silken nude

Silken - 12 x 12 Oils on Canvas

Silken - 12 x 12 Oils on Canvas by Jennie

This piece has been painted for the upcoming christmas exhibition at port art gallery. I had to resist the urge to call it dimples! I really am enjoying the smaller pieces, they are fun, more of a fling than a heady engagement. Port art called and asked if I could get my works to them earlier for a separate show which is wonderful as it means further exposure, but unfortunately I won’t have as many as I would like in the shows. ah well. I sold one of the ones that was going to be exhibited so I can’t complain!

between the entries for Gallery Diet and Brian Burkhardt’s Word of Mouth exhibit at Miami Art Basel and my pieces for the christmas shows at Port Art I have been painting like crazy and working insanely on all the business stuff in the meantime. I am thrilled to be working so hard, especially as my painting seems to be better when I push myself to the limits (it’s the exhaustion - it does funny things to my creative centers!) but boy am I tired! luckily I can space out this weekend and next week a bit more - I think i’ll need it! further details on all these shows soon!

Oh my Sweet Nude Lord!

 My Sweet Lord

My Sweet Lord by Cosimo Cavallaro

CHOCOLATE JESUS REBORN:

“There is nothing offensive about this,” Cavallaro said of his 6-foot confection.
The Catholic League, which led the charge against the earlier exhibit, because of its timing -a day after Palm Sunday - and location - in a Manhattan gallery visible to passersby - won’t protest this time.
“This is much less an in-your-face assault on Christians, and it’s not happening during Holy Week,” said Kiera McCaffrey, the league’s director of communications.

He’s Back! and this time without the fuss. I realize that some weeks are ‘holier’ than others but I guess I personally think that if something is offensive to the church at easter then it should still be just as offensive the rest of the year. my understanding of the bible is that no dates should be held above others and that you should maintain your state of grace throughout the year rather than saving it all up for the holiday seasons. the holy week is for a heightened fervor in worship but not for a change in values. but then, I don’t understand what was so offensive in the first place. I thought it was an original and creative concept and that easter was the perfect time for it’s release. I saw it as a condemnation of the commercialization of easter and the near religious worship of chocolate during that time of year.

Vanity

Vanity 14x10 Oils on Canvas

Vanity 14×10 Oils on Canvas by Jennie

I enjoy commission pieces. they give me an opportunity to do something different from the norm. to stretch my creative brain in new directions to come up with something fresh. it can be so easy to stagnate but a commission is a chance to do something out of the box.. even if it isn’t a nude ;)

New Untitled Nude

Untitled - 12x10 Oils on Canvas
Untitled - 12×10 Oils on Canvas by Jennie

working small is a great opportunity to work on composition and finding the heart of a piece. with limited space I need to work maximum impact - it’s a great way to get the creative juices flowing. I thing I’ve needed some boundaries to my working to concentrate my focus. freedom is bliss, but boundaries can create the focus needed to move up to the next level. I am very happy with this piece. as usual, the more I paint the more I want to, the more it takes over. having shows to prepare for helps, I’m on a deadline which, as an ex project manager, I relish - the time limit makes it real, it gives me the opportunity to get the works out of my head and onto the canvas.I don’t have a name for this one yet - feel free to suggest one!
