Thanks Walt!

There is a magic to disneyland. I first felt it as a child and every time I’ve visited since. the plaque at the gate reads “you are now leaving the world of today and entering the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy”. and it’s true, when you pass through that arch it feels as if the world shifts. as if anything is possible and that all your dreams really can come true.

I become a child at Disneyland. I’ve been many many times, from Erica’s age to now and there is a wonderful feeling knowing that I could share it with her and that the magic and sheer joy was still there.

I am a cynic, I have purple hair and wear black. but I am also a hopeless sap with a penchant for Disney movies. I’m not ashamed to admit it, I love the feeling that the movies, songs and place inspire in me. I believe Walt Disney was a true artist and visionary with a sense of whimsy that we all need in our daily lives. His movies inspired me to create, to sing, to dream and wish and to always see beauty and art in everything. This was helped by my mother who always told me I could do anything or be anything. She loves Disney too!

The biggest joy I’ve experienced, however, is the one right now, sharing Disneyland and my love of Disney movies with my 2 year old. It is one of the most fulfilling and joyous experiences of my life. seeing her delight at the Castle and the “merrround” (the merry go round for those who don’t speak toddler) and the moment, the sheer look on her face, when she met Mickey and Minnie and gave Minnie a fist bump, well, those are the moments we dream about! We are keeping the Magic alive now that we are back, we watch the “fire-rockets” on Youtube and a different movie every day. I’m hunting down different carousels in Victoria and looking at the photos more often then I can say. It’s a delight to be able to share something that has touched the hearts of so many for so long. I love the idea that when she is grown and has a two year old of her own she will be able to bring them and share in the same joys.

The peace and joy that I feel after such a brilliant trip propels me forward into some very exciting projects and challenges. I’m refreshed, rejuvenated and ready.
