New nude: unnamed

New nude: unnamed, originally uploaded by minxdragon. Another watercolor, this time i went with a different take, the watercolor is all one color and the pencil is in several different ones. Adding realism to your nude models

Now that you have the basic models you may have noticed they look a little.. blah. the skin looks plastic and fake, the figures are basic and not very expressive in themselves, you need to inject a little reality. while photorealism isn’t completely necessary for a figure reference, I find it helps to create the…

Change of pace

Change of pace, originally uploaded by minxdragon. I find that while i don’t particularly want to do the web based portion of my work at the moment. I am more than happy to play with my watercolors. In fact i seem to want to play. Period. I am thoroughly enjoying roaming around, cooking new, fun…

how to get a nude model to do whatever, whenever, for free

photographs are excellent resources but sometimes you need greater control over the angle and posing and sometimes you need to think of the figure in three dimensions rather than two…. you can light your creation with many lights in different colors, control the shadows and angles then finally render your piece with all the reference you need to create your masterpiece!… I’ll cover how to find free content, how to pose and light models, how to morph and apply textures, what bump maps are and how they add to reality and how to use your images as references.

New Nude: Kneeling

almost finished painting – (there’s one that needs a little something extra, but I don’t know what yet). almost finished cleaning the sides and stringing the backs – I’ve framed the watercolors (don’t ask about the stress that was!… sometimes it seems sad, sometimes it seems peaceful, but I’m really getting to be happy with the lines and shapes in this piece.

Trials and Tribulations

I’ve been meaning to update you all on the new paintings I’ve been doing, the news from this show and other shows and all the little bits that go into making an exhibition work…. I reassure myself that it will be better when it’s over, then I have the depression to contend with and finally the rest before ramping up to the next one…. so we panic and stress and worry, then the absence of that stress and panic and this thing that we’ve thrown ourselves into is over all too fast and we crash.

New Nude: Shy

I had something else planned for this piece, another superimposed pastel figure, but the positioning was off and I couldn’t get it to work, the effect wasn’t coming across…. she was hiding, or trying to and an image came to me of sheets and bed and I remembered that I wanted to try this fabric draping technique…. I think I definitely want to try more fabric though, I forgot how much fun it is to work with your hands!
