Should henson be allowed to scout in Schools?

Another of the Nude Teen Pictures under debate by Bill Henson. Picture by the Daily Telegraph The recent interview and book about Bill Henson and the controversy in May has brought to light how Henson goes about searching for his models and has, in turn, caused it’s own furor of media activity. It appears that…

MF Husain’s Nude art aquitted

Bharatmata (Mother India) by M.F. Husain On Monday, three Supreme Court judges described his painting as a work of art and rejected a petition by complainant Dwaipayan Vekateshacharya Varkedkar seeking Husain’s prosecution for offending Hindus. “It is an art like the sculptures. None get scandalized looking at the sculptures,” The Times of India quoted the…

Prudish council rejects nude art

Judge for yourself – the “highly explicit” nudes by Tuckey and Eames (photo courtesy of the ABC) “I unwrapped my work and they looked at it and told me it was inappropriate and they would not hang it in the exhibition,’’ Ms Tuckey, a TAFE art teacher, said. “They said that school children would be…

how much nipple is too much?

“I use myself as the model in front of a mirror because it saves paying someone else and I paint late at night when I cannot expect another model to pose for me.

…I feel sorry for the artist, sitting with the curators of this gallery, with whom she has an existing long term relationship, and candidly discussing how much nipple is too much…. as some of you know I’ve given long thought to nipples, they are a recurring theme in my works in a “now you see them now you don’t” sort of way and I frequently feel they can make or break a piece.

Purity Exhibition Post Mortem

The control freak in me loved organizing the whole thing, not having to fit in with other artists (usually also control freaks) and being able to have final say. a lot of the things I had percolating in the back of my mind from my other exhibitions definitely played a part and on the whole I thought they went well…. because I was so rushed the opening wasn’t as well organized as I would have liked and I didn’t have time to issue a second press release.

Trials and Tribulations

I’ve been meaning to update you all on the new paintings I’ve been doing, the news from this show and other shows and all the little bits that go into making an exhibition work…. I reassure myself that it will be better when it’s over, then I have the depression to contend with and finally the rest before ramping up to the next one…. so we panic and stress and worry, then the absence of that stress and panic and this thing that we’ve thrown ourselves into is over all too fast and we crash.

Discovered Artists

A few months ago I was invited to be a Founding Artist of DA, invited from this blog as a matter of fact! it turns out they had been watching my performance as a best seller on BoundlessGallery for a while. you can check out my new digs at http://www.discoveredartists.com/jennierosenbaum I’m very excited to be a part of this project, so far the organization, communication and website design are fantastic and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes in the future!

New Nude: Shy

I had something else planned for this piece, another superimposed pastel figure, but the positioning was off and I couldn’t get it to work, the effect wasn’t coming across…. she was hiding, or trying to and an image came to me of sheets and bed and I remembered that I wanted to try this fabric draping technique…. I think I definitely want to try more fabric though, I forgot how much fun it is to work with your hands!

New Nude: Relaxed

Relaxed – 18 x 30 Mixed Media on Canvas by Jennie Rosenbaum I’m using a new impasto surface instead of gesso and it’s really making a difference, sharper lines and I think it has a greater permanence as well…. I am going to be trying an acrylic impasto medium as well to play with translucency and so on. I’m really enjoying having the time and reason to dedicate to these white pieces…. This piece is a little different to my other white pieces but I think I am starting to get a feel for gravity, and for the new knife I am using after my old favorite met an unfortunate and untimely death..

Blarney Nudes

Spencer Tunick has done a lot for nude art, in the last eight years, his attitudes and installations help to reinforce the idea that nudity isn’t inherently sexual but natural and even fun, a unifying concept that links us all at the most basic level…. Tunick’s work has been criticized in the past and there have been court orders to try to prevent his installations from taking place, but the very public nature of his work is one of the things that makes it so compelling and the final results so interesting. the installation is not just about the photographs, although that is what most people see, it’s also about people braving the elements, public scrutiny and an artist’s whims clad in nothing but their skin.
