Otaku

I draw a lot of inspiration from anime, stylistically, poses and it’s emotive content. most people see anime as fluff such as pokemon and sailor moon, and while I love cute fluffy anime, there is something compelling about the dark, beautifully realized shows.

I have just finished Full Metal Alchemist. from the first episode this anime has been the most mind destroying, emotive and magnificent series I have seen. I loved it, I hated it and I was drawn by it to see it to the end even through the destruction and heartache. I laughed, I screamed out loud and I cried. this series was a beautifully realized piece of conceptual art.

I learned something through the beautiful agony of watching it. it was balanced, the sweet with the bitter, the horror with the beauty. it was art in the making where the viewer became wrapped in the story and the characters until it was impossible to live without it, even though it made me feel such horrible things. it was a cleansing, a scouring of the soul and I felt deep inside that this is what art should be, even when it is dark and disturbing the viewer still gains something from it and hopefully takes it away, their life changed – even if it’s in a small way.
