The Simpsons have been responsible for many notable artwork references over the years, Several are quite fabulous but this is the first time that I have noticed a reference to a current contemporary artist. or at least, I think it is.
This screen grab from the episode “All’s Fair in Oven War” seems to be a pretty strong reference to the artwork of Shag. Shag’s work is quite iconographic and strongly reminiscent of the design styles of the 60s and 70s. it is highly geometric and strong.
Now, I could be wrong, but compositionally and stylistically this appears to be a reference to the work of Shag – what do you think?
