Art News Blog: Turner Prize Shortlist

Art News Blog: Turner Prize Shortlist“The prize that has made itself famous or infamous for shock and controversy has thrown in another surprise : Traditional still life oil painting!”Hopefully this represents a turn in the tides for artists such as myself. I have seen trends shifting back towards realism and painting a little but this seems to me to be the first clear sign. Even if it isn’t a real sign – it is a welcome change!

Old lady not dead yet

The Matazone blog » In local news: Old lady not dead yet I just love this article and her face. not only is the writing hilarious but her face and expression is magic!… I am in a portrait mood…

‘Scream’ Theft Suspect Detained for Four Weeks

Entertainment News Article | Reuters.com The courts have ordered him detained while the search goes on. Hopefully this bodes very well!… you know, they go on about the Scream (which is undoubtedly his mot famous work) but The Madonna was also stolen and I think it is a really great work…. The subject is grotesque and being a subject I particularly enjoy I am going to be first in line for this one!

Meh

Not much happened over the weekend art wise, it usually all happens on the weeknights – that may change now though as I have just gotten World of Warcraft…. Mom is back from Japan, she has taken tons of photos for me that she thinks I might like to paint…. Sigh, sometimes don’t you wish you could just curl up in bed and make the world go away?

I am tolerated to Feldene and Voltarin now but the Doc is trying me on something new, it is apparently gentler on the stomach but close to feldene. We shall see how it goes but I am hopeful, a little worried about how it interacts with alcohol but usually they enhance each other which is nice, that’s what feldene does…. While I was at the doctors I got a referral for a specialist as per the lawyers request, he is apparently a leading authority on back injuries and may even be able to help (with the pain, not the cases) I am deathly afraid of having surgery or quartizone injections recommended – it sounds so wrong to introduce foreign substances like that and surgery is just wrong.

Procrastination.. and the joy of sheet music

I have decided to take on my long awaited, much put off task of sorting my enormous sheet music collection…. I am missing the SCA though, it is a good place to express creativity etc. I am working on a new version of the St Monicas website…. I am pissed that it has been so long since it was updated, I surrendered the website early last year and nothing has been done on it since – dont whinge if you arent going to do it yourself!!

Education and the Arts

I love Art History and painting (obviously) and the course I am looking at is designed to allow exploration of art techniques and skills, as well as art history…. I am mildly worried about the long term implications of starting something like this, I still hope that I will be able to get better and get back to work. But I can still take it at my own pace so if I want to continue when I am back at work I can and at least it will be something for me to do during my convalescence…
