Just for fun..

It’s just a bit of fun really, a very good educational site – it’s a good thing to raise awareness of art history (especially in a fun way, I was the only one who enjoyed art history at my school). In other news I have to get up at dawn one of these days as I have to take a series of photos from dawn to dusk to explore the light. I wouldn’t mind but it has to be an outdoor subject and being physically challenged it makes it difficult for me to pick up and photograph a fabulous location – believe me, my back yard is anything but!… poor guy.I am a little worried about getting enough light subjects – in case you haven’t noticed the light is mostly a uniform gray these days.

Bar of soap sells for $18,000 at frenzied Art Basel

Entertainment News Article | Reuters.com“Prices are soaring for star-quality artists, topping levels charged for the old masters in a market that has an estimated $20 billion annual turnover, making veteran art experts wonder if this feeding frenzy can really last.”A particularly interesting article on the Huge Art Basel sale and the frenzy it produced. sorry I dont have more at the moment, I am working on two essays due this week for art history and photography and am very brain dead!more work in progress info coming soon – maybe even a photograph taken with an actual camera!

I’m Wrapped!

Pricing, prioritizing, gallery services everything is on the web – except how to wrap art for delivery!!or at least not that I could find.Officeworks used to sell big bolts of bubble wrap so I started there…. About half the size I need.So I made it up and fought with bubble wrap and packing tape. The results are ok now – I think they will survive the trip at any rate.I am excited about the show – but between the nightmares of mangled artworks and the fear that something will go wrong now that I have told people about it and my work will not end up on display- I am very nervous.I have good reason to be worried – lots of gallery owners are going to be there and one in particular is coming specifically to see my works.

Photography

I have had the distinct pleasure of photographing my art properly this past week.My record is 40 Photos out of which 1 was ok.Thank god for Digital!I will probably post the images on Flickr soon if you want to take a look…. The issues with these photos were the darkness of the rooms and the specific light sources (such as overhead lights) a flash would create a horrible sheen (as would having the wrong lights on) but without lights or flash would make the images very grainy and quite dark.My internship with a local artist taught me something about photographing art (although he mostly used water colors) and using Liam as a pack horse I took to the outside to position my works in the right light outside. To an outsider this would have looked very funny as we chased the shadows and dappled light across the lawn and moved between the front yard and the back…. Some are for portfolios, some are for entries and some are because I will be creating a proper website soonish and want a good collection.I am looking forward to studying photography because it may help here, and with photographing subjects prior to painting.

Housekeeping

It seemed a bit stupid to have my old profession seeing as it appears that it will probably be a long while yet before I am well enough to start looking for work again, let alone get another job (considering that everyone will be afraid of workcover claims)…. we will see in another 6 months or so (it needs to be 18 months after the accident) it also depends on how they assess impairment…. Meanwhile, I have added some links to arty blogs that I am currently reading and some other arty links I am using and enjoying.

the art life

the art life “The synergy between art and food is something we’ve discussed before. Someone decided it was great advertising opportunity for people to know that, for example, Bistro Moncur is just across the road from Eva Bruer Art Dealer, so once you’ve bought a nice painting, you can celebrate with a bottle of wine over a nice steak (specialty of the house) and so the Art & Food Guide was born.” Well it goes to show really, see I knew I wasn’t the only wierdo who thinks food and art go together!

Art Theory

I was having a great talk with Liam over Japanese (mm Shira Nui in Glen Waverley, excellent Japanese food and Sake) and we were discussing the nature of art. And we came up with the grand unified food theory of art. (ok but I needed a grand Title)…. But the more levels someone feels the better it is and the more levels and the more people you can touch – even better still!… A simple landscape may make one person think of the place they grew up and another person a horrible nightmare they had, but it still speaks to them in an individual voice and that is what truly counts.

The Accident Details

The details of the car accident and injuries that resulted in my back being buggered (that’s the technical term my chiro uses) and my having all this time to paint and write and write in this blog!
