Hype

I am going to be a bit of a tease here and I am not necessarily going to post everything here or on my website. So you will have to come to see them 😉 I am very excited about working larger scale again. I am drawing at a mile a minute in my visual diary and am picking canvasses to fit the pieces perfectly.

Blog Project Update

I have taken charge of it, and I think it has lent power and understanding in my dealings so far…. I will be writing the next two posts very soon. Thankyou all for putting up with the previous posts, long though they were, Putting them up here has given me the impetus to think everything through and stick to my goals.

Discordance

because, rather than sticking to conventional modalities, subjects and chords they create a unique and unexpected version of a conventional art form and a new experience. The clashing chords, unexpected harmonies and lyrics can often make an uncomfortable listening experience for the average listener and don’t necessarily appeal to everyone but these compositions, to me, are an art form in themselves rather than just entertainment…. When you hear a discordant note or choral piece and you feel the goosebumps rise on your flesh, that is the art working it’s way in. When you see a catwalk model with an unconventional face, who is a painting rather than a blank canvas, then we notice the uniqueness and feel drawn to it.

Art is really really great… for Porn!

That photos of heavy-duty consensual sadomasochistic sex may be alarming and not for faint hearts, but they are a lot more fun to look at than all those flowers he insisted on photographing? There’s a new exhibition of Mapplethorpe’s work in Edinburgh that is raising some interesting questions about the artist’s choices and subject matter…. Vilified or loved, his image (yes the one with the bullwhip) will be synonymous with the fine line between art and pornography.I think there aren’t many pioneers of art these days, as our boundaries grow broader and we accept more than ever before there are less walls to break down, less ways to shock people…. I guess history will be the judge as to whether shock or subtle wins in the end.Just a further note, I never understood why people got so shocked by Mapplethorpe’s works, Bosch painted scenes that were just as graphic and anally retentive (heh).

Letting it out

Things have been somewhat emotional lately, and a recent movie kinda made me tap into some really biiiig issues I am not going to get into here. Now while freakouts are very harsh and upsetting when I can run off into my studio and pour them out in art. Drawing is especially good for this…

Blog Project Update

I wrote a long post yesterday furthering the blog project, published it, then got freaked out and deleted it! some of you may have caught it on your feeds. 😳 The original reason I deleted it was because of the 3am panic fit and that fact that I don’t think I took it where it…

5 Simple Steps to Owning My Career – Step 1: People Who Inspire Me

Characters like Baslim the cripple (a spy who used his artificial leg to store data) and Richard Campbell (an amputee who changes the world) show Heinlein’s own experience with disability after being invalided out of the army…. Heinlein also shaped the way I view art and what I want to create, how I want people to feel about my work: Jennie’s Palette » Blog Archive » Beauty RevisitedFitz Literary Character by Robin HobbRobin Hobb’s HomeFitz showed me the reality of pain and the fear of pain…. Obscurely he also taught me the pain of losing someone you care about to their art.My DadWho showed me that a career can be a winding road and that you can follow your dreams and inspiration, even if it takes you in a random direction.
