Believe it or not, but the Eddie Maguire one was really great, I guess because you could barely see his face…. I remember Years ago they hosted major installations, paintings and one really amazing historical toy exhibition…. I guess I am a little sad, the MGA is the premiere gallery in the SE suburbs and it is limiting itself to only photographic works?

‘Scream’ Theft Suspect Detained for Four Weeks

Entertainment News Article | Reuters.com The courts have ordered him detained while the search goes on. Hopefully this bodes very well!… you know, they go on about the Scream (which is undoubtedly his mot famous work) but The Madonna was also stolen and I think it is a really great work…. The subject is grotesque and being a subject I particularly enjoy I am going to be first in line for this one!

Meh

Not much happened over the weekend art wise, it usually all happens on the weeknights – that may change now though as I have just gotten World of Warcraft…. Mom is back from Japan, she has taken tons of photos for me that she thinks I might like to paint…. Sigh, sometimes don’t you wish you could just curl up in bed and make the world go away?

Surviving Interpretation…

I am uncomfortable about this passage: Australian artists who aspire to the kind of career that Hatoum has achieved should take note that any trace of discernable personal identity must be erased from their practice before they will be admitted to the international touring circuit of contemporary art. Expressionism will not be permitted…. ok, maybe I am dumb, but all I can see is the end of “Sunday in the Park with George” where the descendant of Georges Seurat keeps trying to recapture the talent of his famous ancestor but churns out 7 almost identical installations with lasers and fog machines and everything except artistic talent and passion. when seen in a counterpane to Act 1 where Seurat is working to develop his epic work, it becomes especially poignant that he just doesn’t seem to grok what art really is, he seems to flounder and try to create what people want him to create.

RedHead

This was a very fast painting working on foreshortening again and taking the figure as a whole rather than little sections…. So, working in thick rough brushstrokes and creating highlights by wiping away traces of paint (which is why I had to work very very fast) The result is a particularly textured and 3d effect that I am rather proud of…. The title is pretty obvious but I chose red hair because the color would work particularly well (blonde not so much and dark would be too dark) I also chose it because the pose seems to have some unbridled sexuality and red hair is frequently considered a sexual and passionate color.

Art Theory

I was having a great talk with Liam over Japanese (mm Shira Nui in Glen Waverley, excellent Japanese food and Sake) and we were discussing the nature of art. And we came up with the grand unified food theory of art. (ok but I needed a grand Title)…. But the more levels someone feels the better it is and the more levels and the more people you can touch – even better still!… A simple landscape may make one person think of the place they grew up and another person a horrible nightmare they had, but it still speaks to them in an individual voice and that is what truly counts.

I cant sing properly (it feels like I am singing through a muffler), I am useless psychically and I cannot paint to save myself…. all I can do is try to plan the next thing and not force it…. I am looking at new printers and hounding all the geeks I know, they must be sick of it now, but I am so sick of getting shite printers so I really really want the right one for me.
